Class A Girls

4x800 Meter Relay

Stephanie Caruso opened things with a 2:27 leg, and Julia McGinley closed it out with a 2:25 as Central blasted their way to a 16 second win. The Class A Girls high jump has been a bit odd all year. Girls jumping 4'10 one meet and 4'4 the next. It made things a bit hard to predict coming into the meet. Valley Fayette's Nikki Costa was the only one in the field that was able to manage a 5'0 jump. Pendleton's Allison Brown was the only other jumper over 4'10. The other four placers cleared 4'8. They were Bishop Donahue's Jen Hill and Williamstown's Brice Fenton tied for 3rd, St. Marys' Megan Elder in 5th, and South Harrison's Leah Michael in 6th.

Williamstown's Dani Gray claimed the final place.
RunWV's Current Score: 30 of 36.

Madonna's Kristen Saggio took the final spot.
RunWV's Current Score: 61 of 72.

Discus
Doddridge pretty much sealed the team title in taking 1st and 3rd in the Discus. Pre-meet favorite Amanda Napolitani shook off some disappointing early throws to score a 13' victory. Her 112'0 effort was the only throw over 100'. Williamstown's Laura Ankrom sailed the discus 99'1 on her last throw, which reported moved her from not placing into 2nd. Doddridge's Kayla Todd and South Harrison's Joanna Dempsey had matching best throws. In that situation, the tie is broken by looking at the second best throw. Todd had the advantage there and took the 3rd place medal. Mount Hope's Cindy Hillberry was only 7 inches behind in 5th. St. Marys' Amanda Kerns was the only other thrower over 90' in taking 6th.
RunWV's Current Score: 66 of 78.

Class A Boys

4x800 Meter Relay
Doddridge moved David Orejuela onto the 4x800, taking him out of the 400, and the move paid off with a championship run. The win did not come easily though, as Orejuela's 2:00 anchor leg was just enough to hold of Charleston Catholic and Robbie Sherrard's 1:59 anchor leg. Those two teams were over 20 seconds ahead of the field and another great race. 3rd place through 7th place were separated by only 1.68 seconds, with 4th through 7th being separated by only 0.62 seconds. Pocahontas was able to come out on top in the race for 3rd. St. Marys had just enough to hold onto 3rd, 0.06 seconds ahead of Pendleton. Pendleton was less than half-a-second ahead of Williamstown, who used a late push to take 6th by only 0.11.
RunWV's Current Score: 5 of 6.

RunWV's Current Score: 10 of 12.

A surprisingly deep field of Class A vaulters took to the skies and six of them cleared 12'0. As expected, Buffalo's Seth Beckner was the class of the field, setting a new Class A State Meet Record with a vault of 13'6. That height matches the 8th best Class A or AA State Meet vault ever. Our tie-breaker system will determine if he joins the All-Time list or not. Williamstown's Ryan Flowers cleared 13'0 to take 2nd. Mount Hope's Matt Craddock cleared 12'6 for 3rd. As in the Class A Girls Discus, there was a tie that had to be broken by the 2nd best throw, but this time that tie-breaker determined the championship. 4x400 Meter Relay
The team title was on the line in the 4x400 as Doddridge headed into the event with a five second lead. Williamstown did not run fast enough in the Region to run in the 2nd heat, meaning Doddridge and Williamstown would not be able to square off head-to-head. Greenbrier West excelled in the first heat, beating Williamstown by nearly two seconds and helping ease their pain of just missing out on the 4x800. Charleston Catholic took the event by over a second ahead of St. Marys and setting a new Class A State Meet Record by 0.10. St. Marys was solidly in 2nd. Greenbrier West ended up third.
